New coach passenger passport checking facility, Eurotunnel Terminal, Folkestone, 21st May 2019
On Tuesday 21 May, Eurotunnel officially inaugurated the recently installed SAS Parafe “e-gate” hall for coach passengers on the Folkestone terminal. The e-gates will operate for customers crossing the border from the UK into France. The first people to benefit from the introduction of this this facility were the passengers on a coach operated by regular customer, Shearings Holidays – part of the Specialist Leisure Group.
Operated on behalf of the French government, represented by the Police Aux Frontières (PAF), the e-gates are located in the coach hall and use state of the art facial recognition technology to increase both the speed and the accuracy of passport controls.
Eurotunnel is delighted to see this major step in the evolution of a smart border introduced in time for the start of the busy summer season.
